The ladies of St Margaret’s Friendship Group meet every Tuesday morning, except the third Tuesday of each month, in the Meeting Room from 10 am to 12 am. Their theme is based on Friendship, Fellowship, Caring and Love for each other.
They have around 16 members but warmly welcome new faces. Their morning is spent enjoying a delicious morning tea provided by rostered members, devotions, knitting squares and lots of chatting on various topics of the day which can be very amusing or quite serious. The squares are made into knee rugs which are given to Nursing Homes in the ACT. They also celebrate member’s birthdays with a special cake and candles.
At each meeting they place on the table a money box into which members put their loose coins. When the box is full they donate the money to Frontier Services, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Aussie Farmers or the Christmas Bowl. Each charity gets one or two donations per year.
Melbourne Cup Day is a special morning when they dress for the occasion, invite husbands, enjoy horsey stories and Aussie poetry all combined with a very fitting morning tea to compliment the occasion .
Hosting the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, to support the Cancer Council fund cancer research, has always played a very big role for the Group. For this activity they have backup from the St Margaret’s Congregation to make it the memorable and successful event it has become.
To end each year’s activities, a Christmas Lunch is celebrated at the Tradies Club in Dickson in the Courtyard Café where members and partners exchange Season’s Greetings and celebrate the past year’s activities.
This group of ladies is a very much appreciated part of the church and community fabric which is St Margaret’s Uniting Church.
